Medi-Cal renewals are happening

1. All Medi-Cal members have their eligibility reviewed once per year. Everyone’s renewal date is different.

  • Some people will be renewed automatically based on the information their local Medi-Cal office has access to, like Social Security and Employment Development Department databases. If renewed automatically, you will receive a notice that you have been renewed and do not need to do anything else.
  • Others will need to provide additional information for their local Medi-Cal office to complete this process. If you receive a yellow envelope with a renewal form, you must complete this form and submit any additional information requested to keep your coverage.
  • In some households, different family members have different types of Medi-Cal – it is important to watch for notices from your local Medi-Cal office and take action if you receive any requests for information.

2. The most important thing to do is to make sure your local Medi-Cal office has your correct mailing address, phone number, and email address, especially if they have changed over the last three years. That way, your local Medi-Cal office can reach you with important updates.
3. Watch for notices or renewal forms in the mail to know when it’s time for you or your family members to renew. Respond to any requests from your local Medi-Cal office to keep your coverage and access the care you need.
4. Beware of scams. Medi-Cal will never ask for money or credit card information to renew or enroll in coverage.

Update Your Contact Information

1. If your information changes, check that your local Medi-Cal office has your correct address, email address, and phone number. Make sure they can reach you when it’s time to renew.
2. The fastest way to check and update your information is by logging in to your online account through or

Medi-Cal Renewals Information

  • If you do not have an account and your contact information has changed, you can also update your information by mail, phone, or at your local Medi-Cal office. Have your case number or personal information ready
    before you contact your local Medi-Cal office.
  •  If you have questions about renewals or would like in-person assistance – please contact a Health Enrollment Navigator, you can ask them to help you update your information.

3. Watch your mail for a renewal notice or a large yellow envelope with a renewal form.
4. If your information changes in the future, be sure to update your account or let your local Medi-Cal office know within 10 days. Renewals will continue to happen each year, and your county will need to contact you.

Complete your renewal form (if you receive one)

1. Local Medi-Cal offices review each member’s eligibility once per year. Everyone’s renewal date is different. You will receive important Medi-Cal renewal information in the mail when it’s time to renew.
2. Your local Medi-Cal office will try to renew your Medi-Cal automatically without requesting more information.

  • If your coverage is renewed automatically, your local Medi-Cal office will mail you a notice informing you that your coverage is renewed.
  • If you are not renewed automatically, your local Medi-Cal office will mail you a large yellow envelope with a renewal form.
  • You need to provide the information requested to see if you are still eligible for Medi-Cal. If you do not submit the renewal form or provide the requested information by the due date listed on the form, you may lose your Medi-Cal coverage.

3. The easiest way to complete your form is online through BenefitsCal or MyBenefitsCalWIN. You can also provide your renewal information by mail, phone, or at your local Medi-Cal office.
4. Email and text reminders from Medi-Cal, your local Medi-Cal office, and health plans will alert Medi-Cal members when to look out for their renewal information.
5. Help is available. For assistance, contact your local Medi-Cal office or a Health Enrollment Navigator.

Once you submit your renewal form

Your local Medi-Cal office will determine your eligibility and contact you by mail.

  1. If you still qualify, your Medi-Cal coverage will be renewed for one year.
  2. If you no longer qualify, your notice will explain why and when your coverage will end.

    Medi-Cal Renewals Information

    1. If you think your coverage is denied, delayed, reduced, or stopped, you can ask your local Medi-Cal office to review your case. You can also ask for a State Fair Hearing about your eligibility. Submit an online request here, or call the State Hearings Division toll free at (800) 743-8525.
    2. If you ask for a hearing before you Medi-Cal ends, your coverage will continue during the process.
    3. If you do not qualify for Medi-Cal because you are over the income limit, you may be eligible for financial help to lower your monthly premium for a health plan through Covered California.

Transition to Covered California

1. If you qualify, your local Medi-Cal office will send your information to Covered California, which will pick a quality plan for you that provides the best value at the lowest cost.
2. Right now, 90 percent of Covered California’s 1.7 million enrollees receive financial help to make coverage more affordable, with many people paying $10 or less per month for health insurance and some getting covered at no monthly cost.
3. Your new Covered California health plan will provide many of the same benefits and services you had with Medi-Cal, including free preventive care and screenings, as well as doctor visits, prescriptions, hospital stays, behavioral health care, and more.
4. Look out for important communications from Covered California, including an envelope that says, “Stay Covered with Covered California.” If you receive a notice asking to confirm your plan, respond right away. You will have the option to change your plan or cancel.
